Meera’s Rainy Friday
The alarm rang sharply at 6:30 a.m., but Meera simply switched it off and snuggled deeper into her blanket.
“Meera! You’ll be late for school!” Mother called from the kitchen.
But Meera paid no attention. She was far too busy dreaming of mountains of chocolates, giant cookies, and rivers of strawberry milkshakes.
Suddenly, she sat upright with a loud gasp.
“Oh no!”
It was Friday—the day she had to submit her English homework! The assignment had been given the previous Monday, and she had completely forgotten about it.
Meera felt as if her whole world had come crashing down.

Her English teacher seemed far more frightening than any monster, ghost, or goblin in her storybooks. Without wasting another second, she grabbed her notebook and began writing as fast as her little hands could move.
Meanwhile, Mother kept reminding her,
“Meera, hurry up! It’s getting late!”
But Meera barely heard a word. Breakfast and a bath were important, but finishing that homework felt much more important at the moment. After all, her life depended on it!
By 7:15 a.m., she hurriedly gulped down a glass of milk and a few slices of bread. There wasn’t even enough time for a bath.
As if the morning wasn’t troublesome enough, dark clouds gathered overhead, and suddenly it began to rain.
“Oh, great!” Meera groaned.

Holding her school bag tightly, she ran as fast as she could through the streets. But just when she thought nothing else could go wrong…
SPLAT!
Her foot landed right on a wet cow pat!
It was as though the cow pat had been waiting all morning just to welcome Meera’s Friday.
“Ewww!” she cried.
Now she was soaking wet, her white school shirt was splashed with muddy water, and her shoes looked as though they had been dipped in chocolate—except it definitely wasn’t chocolate!
All Meera wanted was for the day to end so she could run back home.
But she sighed.
“The day has only just begun.”

She finally reached school, dripping wet from head to toe.
The class teacher frowned.
“Meera! Why are you late?”
Before she could explain, the English period began.
“Everyone, take out your homework,” the English teacher announced.
With trembling hands, Meera opened her school bag.
Her heart almost stopped.
The homework she had worked so hard to finish that morning had turned into a soggy, blue, ink-smudged mess. Rainwater had seeped into her bag and ruined every single page.
The classroom suddenly felt very quiet.
Meera looked sadly at her notebook.
That rainy morning hadn’t just watered the trees and flowers outside—it had washed away all the hard work she had hurriedly completed.
From that unforgettable Friday, Meera learned two important lessons:
Never leave your homework until the last minute… and never forget your umbrella on a rainy day!
